Brett Crawford was born on the 7th of September 1971 in Harare Zimbabwe, he has always had a love and passion for the horse racing industry, from a young age of 11 he used to muck out in the yards and ride work before going to school, he was also a very successful amateur rider winning many races over the hurdles.
Once he left school he served as a stable employee to Brian Muscutt, Neil Bruss and Shane Rankin in Zimbabwe .
At the age of 19 he left Zimbabwe and moved to Johannesburg in 1989 were he joined the Mike Dekock yard. In 1991 he moved to Cape Town and became assistant trainer to Peter Muscutt, he ran a satellite yard for 2 months in Port Elizabeth with great success.
In 1993 he moved to Eric Sands were he stayed four 4 years and had the pleasure of working with one of South Africa’s best sprinters Flobayou. In 1997 Brett moved to Durban for a job offer from Dennis Drier, in the 4 and a half years with Dennis Brett learnt invaluable lessons in mastering the art of training a thoroughbred.
In 2001 Brett became Private trainer to Mrs Sabine Plattner, it was here that Brett was able to show his talent, in the 8 years with the stable they had 30 Graded winners including 7 Gr 1 Races , from distances of 1000m to 3200m.
In October 2009 Crawford Racing was born, Brett elected to go on his own and has now built up a sizable yard with fantastic clients, in the two and a half years on there own they have won a further 3 GR1 races as well as a Gr2
Brett is married to Jill and they have four wonderful children, Cameron, Cody, James & Sarah
