Crawford Racing’s love of the Ready To Run Cup
Just over a year ago, Crawford Racing was celebrating the victory of a horse aptly nicknamed the Superhero.
His name is Captain America and he will go down in history as the first winner of the Lanzerac Ready to Run Cup.
A year later and the yard has some lively contenders, including two special performers that showed they have what it takes to be included in the final field.
The first of the winners was Valerin, A gutsy son of Lateral who is all heart. He beat a hard knocking field of handicappers to firmly raise his hand in his bid for Ready to Run glory.
Valerin – a gutsy horse that deserves his place in the final field
A versatile sort, who under the guidance of Corne Orffer, made his move at the right time, won under a driving finish to record his 2nd career victory. Chatting to part owner Brent Donnelly , he was ecstatic after the victory, ” I am so proud of this guy. He has a huge heart and tremendous courage and his record speaks for itself. He is a pleasure to own and I am looking forward to taking our place in the Ready to Run Cup. Thanks to Brett and his team who are doing such a great job and of course to Corne who rode a great race. I must also thank my partners, they are all passionate about the game and it is really a great bunch to be involved with.”
The next race on the day provided what was what many local racegoers considered the performance of the day. Alexis, the daughter of Dynasty was having only her 3rd racecourse appearance, but it was apparent from the way she moved to the starting stalls that she meant business. Sitting midfield throughout, when asked to respond she quickened well and set out after the leader. For a brief second it looked like she had a tough task on her hands, but her class pulled her through and she actually won a terrific race under a hands and heels ride by Corne.
Alexis – One for the notebook. A filly with tons of talent and potential
An elated Brett had the following comments,'” I was very impressed with Alexis’s performance. She looks like she could be a very smart filly and she won a very good race. Valerin too ran a very good race. He is so gutsy and his form speaks for himself. I am sure that the two good performances yesterday will secure both of their spots in the Ready To Run Cup, we just need some good draws next week and all things going well, we will be competitive.”
One thing you can be sure of , is that Crawford Racing will not be relinquishing their title in the Ready to Run Cup without a fight and the whole stable is really looking forward to Saturday the 22nd of November!
