Crawford Racing’s String for the Durban Champions Season
Crawford Racing has already got a presence in Kwazulu Natal.
Brett, who is currently in Durban, reports that the horses all travelled well and have settled in at Summerveld Training Centre.
The first of the runners will be this Saturday at Scottsville and we also have a list of our Durban string below and their targets for the season –
Starting with the fillies, Maybeyes runs this Saturday in the Umzimkhulu Handicap Gr.3. She will be using this race as a stepping stone to The Fillies Guineas on the 3rd may. She has shown that she is above average and can be competitive at this level.
MAYBEYES – Has her sights set on the Fillies Guineas
Zacharias had a fantastic Summer season. Her record of 3 wins and 3 close places from 7 runs, showed that she also has potential and can compete in several of the fillies handicaps. She may run this Saturday in a fillies handicap over 1400m as prep for The Fillies Guineas and will add another lively chance to that race for the yard. All going well, she could possibly run in the Woolhavington Stakes Gr.1 on 31st May.
The gutsy Reflective Image, who won the Gr.2 Sceptre Stakes in the summer, starts off her Durban season in The Poinsettia Stakes Gr.3 on the 20th and then she will be aimed at the SA Fillies sprint Gr1 on 24th May at Scottsville.

Luna da Victoria Has a run this Saturday too. Her main aim will be to earn some Black Type in The Scarlet Lady & East Coast Handicaps. Another filly that will follow a similar route is Dancing Dynasty. She may also contest the Golden Bracelet Gr.2 on the 26th of July.
Now onto the colts and geldings, starting with the new inmate Sail South. Not disgraced in his first effort for the yard when running a fast finishing 2nd. He will run this Saturday in the Byerley Turk Gr.3 and we will assess him and further plan his route after his run.

The game Red Tractor has made the journey to Durban too. He will be aimed at some of the handicaps throughout the season.
The exciting colt Futura, who has an impressive record of 2 wins and a short head 2nd from 3 career starts, will start his season in a plate race and possibly build up to a run in the Gr.1 Daily News 2000 on 31st of May.
Futura looks to be a smart colt in the making
Recently gelded Gulf Storm will run on the 20th in the In Full Flight Stakes and may target one of the bigger sprints in the season too.
Captain America, who had a fantastic Summer Season, will first run in Gr.2 Guineas and his main aim will be the Gr.1 Daily News and then possibly the Vodacom Durban July.

The final member of the current Durban string is Wavin’ Flag. His mission is the Gr.1 Gold Cup at the end of the season. He will build up to this race with runs in the Lonsdale Stirrup Cup on the 31st and possibly in the Campanajo 2200 or The Gold Vase on Vodacom Durban July day.
There are several other horses that will be heading to Durban at the end of April and Crawford Racing will update the details as they happen.
