A treble for Crawford Racing courtesy of 3 smart colts
This past Saturday produced a treble for Crawford Racing.
The first of the three winners was the smart Dynasty colt DE KOCK. Taking on a field including some of the finest Cape 3-year olds, he raced midfield until he hit the straight. When Glen Hatt switched him out, he began to quicken like a good horse and duly stamped his authority on this competitive field. It was also a wonderful result for leading sire Dynasty who sired the first four past the post.

Brett, who was over the moon, said that he was happy with the further improvement the colt had made. “He is still learning and will keep on improving with more racing experience. His next aim is the Cape Guineas and I look forward to seeing how he goes there. I am very please for Mary and would like to also thank Gary Player and his Stud farm for breeding such a smart colt.”

What started out as a good day for the stable turned into a dream come true for the partners of Captain America. Taking on the talented son of Western Winter, Red Ray, he was second choice in the market in the innagural running of the Lanzerac Ready to run Stakes. Jumping from barrier 4, the Captain had a slight upper hand over the favourite who was drawn at 11. The first several hundred metres was no walk in the park for Captain America. He suffered some bumping and barging and when turning into the home straight, a split second decision by in form stable jockey Glen Hatt, who chose to switch the big son of Captain Al out for his run, proved to be the right choice. Captain America accelerated with such ease that he moved up and went past the gallant Red Ray like a true professional.

Brett, who has always held this colt in high regards, commented; ” I was really impressed with his turn of foot over the 1400m. There was a lot of merit in his win over the classy Red Ray. I am so happy and delighted for David & Dianne Nagle, Adam & Charlie Guerney and Delma & Lance Sherrell. A big thank you to Varsfontein stud who bred him and to the Cape Thoroughbred Sales company and their new Ready to Run sponsor, Lanzerac, for putting on a tremendous days racing. As for his plans, we feel he will be more effective over further, so I will have a chat to all of the partners and we will make a descision as to his future after that.”

The Cherry on top of the cake was Gulf Storm winning the last race. Going into the race on the back of two consecutive victories, Gulf Storm travelled well throughout and when asked the question, he quickened well to show his class. He beat a field of hard knocking handicappers and showed he has a touch of class about him.

After a tremendous treble, Brett had this to say, ” I am so pleased that Gulf Storm made it a hat trick of wins for himself and the stable today. He looks to be a descent sprinter in the making and I will sit down with the Sherrell family and plan his route accordingly. Well done to Lance and Delma and of course to Ashleigh Parker and his Ascot Stud. I am also very pleased for Sail from Seattle who is a lovely stallion. It was a fantastic day and we are all very pleased”.
