All eyes were on the regally bred Wild Coast (Trippi –Beach Beauty, by Dynasty) in the Play Soccer 6,10, and 13 Maiden Juvenile Plate at Kenilworth’s Saturday meeting, however, that Justin Snaith trained colt could only finish fourth, beaten just over six lengths. The race was won by another extremely well bred first-timer in the form of Late At Night, who put up a dazzling display on debut. Under visiting jockey Randall Simons, the Brett Crawford trained two-year-old powered home down the inside of the track to run out an emphatic three and a half length winner while scoring in a time of 78.42.

The race was a triumph for the Crawford yard, with Brett also sending out runner up Double Gratitude (Twice Over –Prayers For Rain). Owned, like unbeaten rising star Armando, by Mr Ng, the Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein bred colt was a R650 000 buy from the 2018 National Yearling Sale.
He is the eleventh winner to have emerged from the first crop of ill-fated Equus Champion and G2 Godolphin Mile/G2 Nayef Joel Stakes winner Soft Falling Rain, with the latter having tragically passed away from colic in 2018.
One of 16 G1 winners sired by Danzig horse National Assembly, Soft Falling Rain is also responsible for promising stakes performers Alramz and Gin Fizz, as well as the unbeaten Durban Golden Horseshoe entrant Al Jahbath.
Late At Night is a colt who sports a stallion’s pedigree –he is out of the Fort Wood sired Clandestine –who won twice from 1600-1900 and who ran second in the G2 Gold Circle Oaks.

The blue blooded Clandestine herself is a full-sister to deceased Horse Of The Year and four times Equus Outstanding Stallion Dynasty, whose numerous high-class performers include champions Futura, Irish Flame, Legislate, Beach Beauty, Bela-Bela, Lady In Black, It’s My Turn and Just Sensual. The latter is currently in foal to unbeaten legend and top class stallion Frankel.
Now the dam of four winners from as many runners, Clandestine also numbers G2 Gold Vase winner Sequoia as a full-brother.
