Drakenstein Stud’s exciting young stallion Futura gained a further boost to his pedigree when his full-brother Scribner got off the mark in convincing style at Durbanville on Saturday.
Trained, like Futura, by Brett Crawford, the three-year-old gelded Scribner justified his tote favouritism status when scoring a convincing one and a quarter length win over 1250m.

Ridden by Corne Orffer, the Guy Murdoch bred Scribner (Dynasty –Scribblin The Cat) was making just his second career outing on Saturday.
Trainer Brett Crawford said of the winner, “He looked absolutely magnificent today, I really think he is a nice horse. He is a full-brother to Futura and he really has a special place in our hearts.” The lightly raced Scribner, one of two winners for his trainer and jockey on the day, was a R1 200 000 buy from the 2017 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
His brother Futura was a superb racehorse who was South Africa’s Horse Of The Year, Champion Older Male and Champion Middle Distance Horse Of 2014-2015. The bay won nine of his 18 outings, with Futura’s four G1 victories coming in the 2015 G1 J&B Met, 2015 G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate and back to back runnings of the G1 Champions Cup.
Scribner won his maiden over the 1200m at Durbanville and best priced offs of 4/1 on Interbet, having drifted from SP of 22/10 and made a good turn of foot to sneak through on the inside of the field for a run on the rail.
