A pair of Australian bred fillies scored impressive victories at Kenilworth on Wednesday, with Zoustar daughter Boomps A Daisy scoring a facile maiden win over 1000m, and Foxwedge filly Run Fox Run taking her record to three wins from as many outings when scoring a scintillating win over 1200m.
Both fillies are trained by Brett Crawford and owned by Craig and Ross Kieswetter and Ridgemont Highlands, while both were steered to victory by Ridgemont’s retained jockey Anton Marcus. Run Fox Run defied a 7 point penalty increase with a victory which had to be seen to be believed. Always up with the pace, the Mill Park Stud bred three-year-old simply strolled home in the Interbet.co.za 0861 150 160 FM 91 Divided Handicap (for fillies and mares), with Marcus taking a look back in vain for his opponents.
She eventually coasted home, with Anton Marcus easing Run Fox Run down at the wire –which allowed runner up Durty Nelly to get with three-parts of a length. A two length winner on debut, Run Fox Run had followed her first run up with a convincing 1.75 lengths win over 1000m, and she looks a very smart filly in the making.
A $420 000 buy from the 2017 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale (she was the top priced Foxwedge yearling sold at that sale), Run Fox Run was produced by General Nediym mare Victory Cry and is, as such, a half-sister to ATC Heritage Stakes winner Guard Of Honour. Her sire Foxwedge (a son of multiple champion sire Fastnet Rock) is standing at Woodside Park Stud this season, with the former G1 William Reid Stakes winner having already produced 12 black type winners most notably the G1 winners Urban Fox (also owned by the Kieswetters), Foxplay and Volpe Veloce.
