Born 1954 in Cape Town and has two children, Brent & Alicia. Has been involved in racing since 1967 when sea cottage and Jolify dead heated in the Durban July.
In 1989 he started working with Cape Town Trainer, Isaak Cronjie, as an assistant trainer, he worked for the yard for some 16 years gaining valuable knowledge & experience. In 2005 he moved to another Cape Trainer Glen Puller.
Working with both Glen and his brother Garth, one of South Africa’s most accomplished jockeys, Barry was afforded the opportunity to work with both Glen in Cape Town and Garth in Durban. After 5 very successful years with the stable Barry then moved in October 2010 to Crawford Racing.
We are proud and privileged to have a man with his experience and work ethic in the yard.
Mlandeli Phaca (aka Spider)
Born in Ugie in the Transkei, Mlandeli started his first job in racing as a groom in 1990 with the powerful Mike De Kock yard in Johannesburg, funny enough Brett was also in the yard as a stable employee and worked together with Mlandeli. He was with the Dekock yard for close to 11 years.
In 2001 Mlandeli moved to Durban where he worked for Kwazulu Natals leading trainer Dennis Drier, he was with the Drier yard for some 7 years.
In 2009 he moved to Cape Town and worked once again with Brett at the Plattner Racing Yard and when Brett started Crawford Racing in October 2009 Mlandeli decided to follow, he is now our leading head lad and we are proud to have him on the team.
Born In Tsolo in the Transkei, Sibusiso started his trade in the horse racing industry in Johannesburg with the Alec Laird yard. It was there that Sibusiso learnt his trade and became a top work Rider where he was fortunate enough to work with the likes of London News, one of the very first horses to travel abroad and prove to the world that the South African Horse Racing industry was good enough to hold its own on the world Stage .
He was with the yard for 13 years proving his commitment & loyalty to the industry, he then moved to Cape Town in 2009 where he joined the Crawford Racing Team, he is another of our Head lads .
Both Mlandeli and Sibusiso share a team of 22 Grooms under them.
Son of Master Farrier Grant Store, Dwain completed his apprenticeship and has been shoeing for himself for the last seven years.
Dwain also worked with Brett before Crawford Racing was born and is now apart of the team and we are proud to have him aboard.
Crawford Racing Facilities & Tracks
At Crawford Racing we currently have three sand tracks and one grass track. Our facilities include a Equissage machine amongst other state of the art training equipment, a private suite at the Kenilworth Race Corse in Cape Town. We are looking into some new exciting additions to our training programs so please be sure to get in touch to find out more.
