Robert Barrett joins Crawford Racing

Passions – horse racing and football only!

Grew up idolising Frankie Dettori and wanted to be a jock, obviously got far too heavy so the next aim was to be a trainer.

Spent a lot of time in my school holidays at Paul Reeves which was sort of my first footing behind closed doors with horses.

Was a good golfer as a teenager and had the choice when I left school to either go to America to try and turn pro through college, or I had an offer from John Koster to go to Klawervlei. My passion for horse racing far outweighed my passion for golf so it was a no brainer, off to klawervlei I went. Spent valuable time there but realised quickly needed to be in a racing yard. The only offer I had was to join Mike Stewart and have been there ever since.

Spent many valuable years there winning features along the way with a limited string. Was part of the rehabilitation of many top horses, Belgarion, African Night Sky, Rio Querari, Doublemint to name a few and most recently the met winner Double Superlative, who was in our care for 6 months of his comeback.

Became a fully qualified assistant on 29th November 2021.
